The Consenteer WordPress plugin is available
The official Consenteer plugin is published in the WordPress.org directory. It adds the consent banner to your site without modifying the theme, without editing functions.php and without a code-insertion plugin. Here is how to install it and what it concretely changes.
Plugin page: wordpress.org/plugins/consenteer
What the plugin solves
Until now, installing Consenteer on WordPress meant pasting a script line into the theme's <head>. It works, but with three well-known drawbacks: the change is lost at the next theme update if you do not use a child theme, it requires access to the code, and it is invisible to the person who takes over the site after you.
The plugin removes all three problems. The script is cleanly injected into the header through the standard WordPress mechanism, the configuration fits in a single field, and the installation survives theme updates.
Installation in four steps
- In the WordPress admin, go to Plugins > Add New, search for "Consenteer", then install and activate.
- Create an account at my.consenteer.com and declare your site.
- Copy the site ID shown in the dashboard.
- Paste it in Settings > Consenteer, enable the banner, and save.
The banner appears immediately in a private browsing window. All customization (format, colors, texts, languages) is then done from the Consenteer dashboard: nothing has to be redone on the WordPress side, and changes are applied without redeployment.
Requirements
| Minimum version | |
|---|---|
| WordPress | 6.7 |
| PHP | 8.0 |
The plugin is tested up to WordPress 7.0.2. It adds no database table and stores only one configuration option.
What you get
The plugin gives access to the full Consenteer foundation, even with a free account:
- Button order in line with the CNIL's recommendations (the CNIL is the French data protection authority): refusing is as easy as accepting;
- Native Google Consent Mode v2, all four signals, with no configuration;
- Support for the GPC signal sent by the browser;
- Automatic blocking of third-party scripts and deletion of refused cookies;
- Consent log with CSV export, as the proof required by Article 7 of the GDPR;
- Cookie scanner to inventory what your site actually sets.
The preferences shortcode
By default, a floating badge lets your visitors reopen their choices at any time, since consent must be as easy to withdraw as it was to give.
If you prefer a link built into your footer or your privacy policy, the plugin provides the [consenteer_preferences] shortcode. Place it in a page, a post or a widget block: it displays a link that reopens the preferences panel.
Common questions
The banner does not appear. In nearly all cases, the domain of the WordPress site does not match the one declared in the Consenteer dashboard: banners are locked to a domain, which prevents a copied ID from being used on another site. Check the declared domain, including the presence or absence of www.
Can I use it on several sites? Yes. Each WordPress site gets its own ID from the dashboard. The number of sites allowed depends on your plan, detailed on the pricing page.
Does it slow the site down? The script is loaded with defer from our CDN and does not block rendering. It loads no fonts or third-party resources.
What happens if I deactivate the plugin? The banner disappears and the script is no longer injected. Your already recorded consents remain available in the dashboard.
And if you are not on WordPress
Nothing changes: the script installs in one line on any platform. The procedure is described on the Installation page.
The plugin is free and works with all plans, including the free plan. Create a free account.
